The Opening
June 1, 2024
After years of planning, months of building…our dream of opening Ruby & Jack’s Doggy Shack has come to fruition. We opened our doors today for a preview weekend. We’ve been giving tours to Pet Parents and their pups all day and have been getting a tremendous response.
Milestones always make me reflect on the past…4 years ago Michael, his wife Marni and I were walking around on South Beach looking for a suitable place for Ruby & Jack’s Doggy Shack, we found a wonderful location but the City of Miami Beach changed their zoning making it an impossibility to open there. We then realized it was time to go back to New York City and pursue our dream in the City we all love and know so well. I’m glad that things didn’t work out on Miami Beach, no place is like New York and it is definitely the right place for Ruby & Jack’s Doggy Shack.
I’ve really been enjoying taking folks on tours through The Doggy Shack, it has been incredibly rewarding for people to show an interest and be impressed with the results of all our hard work.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Ruby and Jack today, they were both such unbelievable dogs and without them, none of this would have been possible. It may seem strange to some that one of the biggest influences in my life was a dog but to me it’s the most natural thing in the world. I still miss Ruby everyday…even four years after her passing. I know that she and Jack would have loved their Doggy Shack.
I’ve been working with animals my entire adult life and while working in the animal welfare field saw all manner of horrible things that human beings are capable of doing to animals. Some people just don’t understand the responsibility we have to dogs and cats. Some people just don’t care, it is gratifying to have built a business dedicated to the simple notion of making dogs and cats happy. I can already tell that we will have a likeminded clients.
I’m really excited for our first dogs and cats to come in…I’ll mark all our efforts a success once we start making life better for dogs, cats and their parents.
I’m exceptionally proud of what we’ve accomplished already and I feel so fortunate to be able to live my dream.
